The West End bake off
Stacey MacNaught |
The stars of London theatre will be baking their best this month as they take part in the first West End Bake Off at the end of the month. They will be flashing their fanciest fairy cakes, bakes and pies at the West End Bake Off, all in aid of charity. Teams from a host of hit West End shows will prove their talents off stage too as they provide cakes and bakes, to sell in aid of Acting For Others, at the event which will be held in St Anne’s Church Courtyard, next to the Queen’s Theatre.
A dozen of the capital’s favourite productions have already pledged their support of the event, including shows such as The Phantom Of The Opera, The Mousetrap, War Horse, The Railway Children, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia!, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, The Book Of Mormon, Billy Elliot The Musical and Wicked. The cast of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory will also be taking part, however it could be argued they have an unfair advantage with its cake creations!
Entertainment royalty Barbara Windsor MBE will judge the stars' productions, calling on completely different talents all in aid of charity. All money raised from the sale of brownies, cupcakes, cookies, muffins and any other baked goods from Theatreland’s finest will go to support Acting For Others. The umbrella organisation that represents 15 theatrical charities uses the funds it raises to emotionally and financially support members of the entertainment industry who have suffered through illness, injury or circumstance.
The West End Bake Off is supported by The Mackintosh Foundation. Acting For Others can also be supported by donating at its Just Giving page online.
