The dx Choreography Award

Stacey MacNaught |

DanceXchange, the Midlands-based dance house, recently announced the launch of the dx Choreography Award, to be used to support artists at an early stage of their choreographic career. As part of DanceXchange’s new Artist Development programme which will be launched in Spring 2017, the dx Choreography Award will support the practice of up to eight early-career artists each year who are based, living or working in the Midlands.

It will be an ongoing programme for artists with the ambition to grow and further develop their practice, aided by the Choreography Award. Two callouts for applicants each year will allow successful candidates to incorporate the Award into their project development, and propel it further than they may have originally been able to. Recipients of a dx Choreography Award will then receive bespoke support in the form of studio and production space, advice and mentoring, as well as a cash bursary and the opportunity to present their work as part of the dx Scratch sharing event.

DanceXchange is an internationally known charity, based in the Midlands, dedicated to producing, promoting and presenting the best of UK and international dance through its artistic programming. dx produces the International Dance Festival Birmingham each time it is presented in the city, and also creates innovative site-specific commissions and large-scale performance events in both professional and community contexts. dx co-produces a range of touring productions, and develops work for theatres, as well as for outdoor spaces. dx also works to engage people from all backgrounds in dance activity, support artist development and nurture gifted young people to help shape the dance artists of the future.

The deadline for applications for artists interested in developing their work with the DanceXchange dx Choreography Award - March–June 2017 - is Monday 23 January 2017.
