Dancewear Central will be interviewing ballet legend Wayne Sleep OBE and we are giving YOU the chance to ask the questions! Dance Proms is a partnership project between three of the world’s leading dance training and awarding bodies, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), The Internatioanl Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Royal Albert Hall, working together in a celebration of dance. Wayne won a Leverhulme Scholarship to the Royal Ballet School in 1961 and joined the Royal Ballet Company in 1966 where he became Principal Dancer of the Royal Ballet School. He is now Vice-President of the Royal Academy of Dance and a Patron of the British Ballet Organization. Appointed OBE in 1998, Wayne has also received honorary degrees from the Universities of Exeter and Teeside. Wayne also has two entries in the Guinness Book of Records. In 1973, Sleep performed an entrechat-douze– a jump with twelve beats of the feet and this record still stands today. Wayne's talents have lead him through a sensational career of achievements, accolades and performances including dancing with a dazzling array of stars such as the legendary Rudolf Nureyev and starred in many West End shows including creating the role of Mr. Mistoffelees in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Cats in London's West End, during 1981. Most recently Wayne has appeared on the Channel 4 show Big Ballet as a mentor working with a troupe of plus-size amateur dancers to realise their dream of dancing the Swan Lake Ballet.
