Easter Parade to march into the West End?

It has been rumoured that theatrical stars Sheridan Smith and Alex Gaumond are in discussions to workshop a new version of the classic musical Easter Parade.
If reports are to be believed, a brand new adaptation of Irving Berlin’s iconic musical movie, Easter Parade, could be making its way to the West End next year; many old-time musicals are re-entering the current musical theatre realm, with whole new generations of audiences ready to be entertained. The 1948 film starred Hollywood legends Judy Garland and Fred Astaire, and became the highest-grossing musical of the year, as well as the most financially successful venture for both Garland and Astaire. To see older musicals return is a coup for the musical theatre industry, as many of today's audiences may not be familiar with many of these legendary productions.

If plans go ahead, the production could be presented in London's West End as early as 2016, under the direction of Jerry Mitchell (known - most recently - for his work on musical Kinky Boots on Broadway). Starlet Sheridan Smith (who most recently appeared in A Midsummer Night’s Dream) is in talks to lead the workshop of the musical, along with Gaumond (who has appeared in both Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Matilda), Dan Burton (Gypsy) and Sophie Isaacs (Made In Dagenham); all of those who are rumoured to be taking part have previously worked with Mitchell on Legally Blonde The Musical.
The new, revamped version of Easter Parade features a new book by Ken Ludwig (who worked on Crazy For You) as well as additional songs from Berlin’s catalogue. Other songs included in the musical are ‘Easter Parade’, ‘Steppin’ Out With My Baby’ and ‘It Only Happens When I Dance With You’. It is hoped 2016 brings even more delight!
