Get your dancewear at the ready.....DanceXChange Birmingham has a packed programme of activities ahead for youth dancers.
The final shows of 2013 are taking place with Running on Empty following a packed programme featuring some of the UK's best dance makers. Running is a new work by acclaimed dance theatre company Probe, led by Antonia Grove, and supported by an impressive group of collaborators. Running on Empty promises to be a great end to 2013 in The Patrick Centre as the story of man, woman and their repeated collision over time, about what drives us to keep moving complete with dance text and song.
If you are a young dancer aged between 11-16 and are interested in applying for the Centre for Advanced Training at DanceXchange, there is a final audition for the contemporary strand on Sunday 1 December from 11.30am in the DanceXchange studios. The small number of grant assisted places still available is a final opportunity to join the new intake of students as they begin a year of exciting opportunities working with regional dance artists, guest choreographers and international artists.
Dancers can also apply Strive, a training course for twelve West Midlands dance artists who want to develop skills and confidence in delivering dance activity for vulnerable groups. Led by DanceXchange, and funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Strive provides dance artists with the opportunity to work with leading regional and national organisations, practitioners and specialists.
For younger dancers, MY (Midlands Youth) Dance is back for 2014. Dance groups can apply to perform as part of the biggest youth dance festival of the year, including dance groups from both the East and West Midlands. In addition to the opportunity to perform, groups will have the chance to engage in masterclasses, workshops and other exciting dance activity. 5 groups from MY Dance will then be selected to perform in Youth Dance England’s national youth dance festival, U.Dance.
