Australian Opera Call
Stacey MacNaught |
Opera Australia have put out a call seeking two experienced dancers (one male, one female) for the Sydney Summer 2014 production of Onegin.
The two dancers will play Tatiana and Onegin as 'movement doubles' of the principal artists: Nicole Car (176cm) as Tatiana and Dalibor Jenis (185cm) as Onegin. It is imperative the dancers are as close in height as possible to the principal artists, dancers can only be considered if they are within 1-2 cms of these figures. A close physical resemblance is also preferred in order to be a successful movement double, a role many performers may find themselves embodying throughout their careers.
Both dancers for the male and female roles must have strong technique in modern and/or contemporary dance, and/or neo-balletic movement as versatile performers. The dancers will consequently be submitted to a London-based choreographer for consideration, for which video links may be provided of their work. The roles will therefore be cast using this footage provided. The major scene involved in the opera is found on Youtube.

The rehearsals for the production will commence on 20 January 2014, and the season runs through until 28 March 2014 with eight performances at the Sydney Opera House. This work is a fantastic opportunity for dancers to work abroad as part of a renowned and classic production in a different performing capacity. If you are physically suitable and experienced, please send through your CV, headshot, height details and links to video footage as soon as possible to Kate Reynolds kate.reynolds@opera.org.au.
